ADVENTURING // engage in daring or risky activity
My life motto for the past decade or so has been "adventuring with Jesus". It's intentionally a verb not a noun because it's the framework for my entire life. Not just moments or situations that exist outside of my everyday. No. My life is adventuring with Jesus - some adventures are small and mundane, like traversing down the long dark corridors of Annie Wright Schools to brave the laundry machines. And some are much bigger - like into the unknown (I will forever and always hear Idina Menzel belting out from Frozen when this phrase comes out).
Some moments are scary and vulnerable, like exposing insecurities and raw grief to your community and some mean you are disappointing people because the adventuring is sometimes away from people you love.
A daring or risky activity this life with Jesus is. It's risky because we don't hold the map or control the destination. It's risky because it asks things of us we aren't sure we are capable of giving. It asks us to change our perspective on gains and losses. It's daring because it's bold. Jesus rarely asks common things of us. Or things we can do in our own strength or capacity.
It's partnership in the work of the divine - defying the expectations and limits of this world.
And yet this is the safest bet you or I could ever take. This adventuring with Jesus.
Because He is sure. Solid ground. The same yesterday, today and forever. For us, not against us. Good.
So... want to know what crazy thing we are doing now?
Read on for more (I'll warn you now, it's a short novel - sorry, not sorry. I can't condense the story of Jesus in my life)
